Summer Strings

Summer Strings will be a Monday – Friday program. Electives will still be offered such as improvisation, chamber music, and fiddling. STEAM projects will be incorporated into the program.

Instruments are not supplied by the Danbury Music Centre. Please contact a local music store for a rental. If you need assistance, please let us know.

Beginner Strings
Start a new instrument and get a head start on your schools program!

Novice Strings
Minimum 1 year private instruction or 2 years school instructions

Intermediate Strings
Requirements:

Two or more years’ experience
Ability to read music
Familiar with first position notes.

Advanced Strings
Requirements:

Ability to shift into third position
Desire to learn advanced ensemble-playing techniques
Ability to sight-reading
Participants should be able to play in 1-2 octave scales in the following keys:

Major- C, G, D, A, F and B-flat

Minor keys: a, d, g , e, and b

Suggested playing level of Suzuki Book 2 or higher

Ages: grades 3-12

Seating evaluation: Please submit a short video which should include:

1. Your choice 1-2 octave scales, 2 Major and one minor

2. Two contrasting pieces which best display your abilities from the solo repertoire. (not school orchestra parts)

• Beginner Strings 9-10 am 
  (begins at 8:30 on Monday and Tuesday of week 1)
  Requirements: 
  • No previous experience is needed
  • Participants should be entering grade 3 or
    higher
    Essential Elements, Book I and Suzuki, Book 1, will be used and may be purchased at local music stores. Parents are encouraged to observe the class.

• Novice Strings 10:00-11:00 am 
  Requirements: Participants should have been studying privately for less than one year (or have had a full year of instruction in school).
  This level is also suitable for students proficient on a primary instrument who wish to pursue a secondary instrument.
  
  Workshops 11 –11:45 pm-small group sectionals, individual practice and help
  
  Lunch Break 11:45-12:30, tuning
  
  Intermediate Strings 10–11pm 
  Requirements: Participants should have two or more years’ experience, read music, and be familiar with first position notes. Advanced also participate.
  
  Advanced Strings 12:30 –1:30 pm 
  Requirements: Participants should be able to shift into third position and have a desire to learn advanced ensemble-playing techniques and sight- reading skills.
