DMC Community Band: Shall We Dance?
Music and dance have always been connected throughout the ages. The DMC Community Band will celebrate dance and music with a concert including, A Copland Portrait, featuring episodes from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, Appalachian Spring, and El Salón México. Ravel’s famous Pavane will be followed by Leroy Anderson’s ever-popular Blue Tango. Familiar selections from the ballet The Nutcracker Suite will also be performed, followed by Symphonic Dance #3 by Clifton Williams, depicting the pageantry of a Latin American celebration with street bands, bullfights, and, of course, exuberant dancing. As a tribute to swing dancing, which swept across the United States from 1935 until the mid-1940s, the band will conclude with Benny Goodman: The King of Swing.
