Danbury Music Centre announces a vacancy for the contractual position of Music Director/Conductor of the Danbury Concert Chorus. Highly qualified, experienced choral conductors may call or email the Danbury Music Centre for more information.
Danbury Concert Chorus is a large, mixed-voice, non-auditioned community ensemble welcoming high school, college, and adult singers rehearsing and performing classical, contemporary, and other diversified works. The chorus rehearses weekly on Tuesdays from September through May and performs three or four concerts a year including an annual Messiah. For the purposes of our search, in the 2022-23 season, two finalists will be invited to conduct concerts from September through May.

Compensation for the audition period will be $225 per service. Compensation upon hiring may be higher based on experience

The Danbury Concert Chorus
Danbury Concert Chorus is a large, mixed-voice, non-auditioned community ensemble welcoming high school, college, and adult singers rehearsing and performing classical, contemporary, and other diversified works. Rehearsals include warmups, best rehearsal practices, and music and vocal instruction as needed.
New members are welcome to join at the beginning of each concert cycle. The chorus has weekly two-hour rehearsals with a brief refreshment break.
The chorus performs with various types of accompaniment which has included piano, organ, small instrumental ensembles, and full symphonic orchestras. The chorus performs Handel’s Messiah each December with members of Danbury Symphony Orchestra and has performed Great Masterworks such as the Mozart Requiem, Stabat Mater by Dvorak, Brahms’ Requiem, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
About the Director of Danbury Concert Chorus
The director will enhance the chorus’s appreciation of the works to be performed by sharing her/his vision, knowledge of choral literature (history, theory, and performance techniques of the repertoire). The director will compile challenging, diverse, and interesting programs appropriate to the chorus’s collective ability. The music director/conductor will be an experienced choral director, possessing an extensive knowledge of choral literature, as well as a competent orchestral conductor.
About the Chorus:
The purpose of the Danbury Concert Chorus is to provide rich musical experiences for singers and to offer public performances of the highest quality to enrich the cultural fabric of the greater Danbury area. Most of the Chorus’s performances will be free to the public.
Danbury Concert Chorus provides a friendly environment for dedicated singers. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, September through May at the Danbury Music Centre in the Marian Anderson Recital Hall. Music is provided at no cost to the singers. All singers are expected to become contributing members of Danbury Music Centre.
Chorus positions include volunteer librarian(s), section leaders for the purpose of attendance. To develop necessary skills and to learn and perform music at the highest possible level, chorus members are expected to abide by attendance requirements, to work on the music outside of rehearsals, and to develop music listening and reading skills.
