BARBARA HARRIS KOVACS, M.M.: Barbara Harris Kovacs is a graduate of West Chester University, having earned a Master of Music degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Vocal Performance in December 2008. She is also an alumnus of Western Connecticut State University, with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music Performance (Voice/Piano – Summa Cum Laude) and in Communications. Mrs. Kovacs studied for several years with Dr. Thomas Houser, International Master Teacher of Singing, as well as Dr. Betty Jones of the New York City Opera; she began learning the piano at age 5, and studied for eight years with Mrs. Marcia Klebanow of Danbury, CT. Mrs. Kovacs studied Choral Conducting with Dr. David DeVenney of West Chester, PA, and has brought her award-winning choral ensembles on performance tours of the U.S., Ireland and Italy.
Mrs. Kovacs has sung in performance as a soprano soloist throughout the Northeastern U.S., with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and with the Immaculata University Symphony Orchestra. She served as adjunct Professor of Voice at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, also teaching the vocal arts at several private high schools in the northeastern US. Mrs. Kovacs has conducted numerous adult, high school, and children’s choirs since 1998, and has maintained a private voice/piano/organ studio since 1994. She directed the Choral and Chapel Music Programs at The Kent School in CT from 2014-2025, serving as head of the Music Department and organist, also teaching Music History and Theory. She is currently the Director of Music/Choral Director at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield, CT, as well as the choral director/music teacher at St. Rose School in Newtown, CT.
Though she is a classically trained vocalist, pianist, and conductor, Mrs. Kovacs enjoys performing several different styles of music, including jazz, rock, and blues. She has composed, recorded, performed, taught and conducted various styles of music throughout the American Northeast.
