DPSO Brochure 2016

ABOUT THE

DANBURY PREPARATORY STRING ORCHESTRA

The purpose of the Danbury Preparatory String Orchestra (DPSO) is to provide a challenging, exciting, educational ensemble experience for string players.  Students will study standard string repertoire appropriate to their level of playing.  Students will develop playing technique, listening skills, orchestral technique, and ensemble experience. Many of the DPSO alumni go on to perform in the Danbury Community Orchestra and Danbury Symphony Orchestra.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Glen Lebetkin has been the director of the Danbury Preparatory String Orchestra since 1999.  The program, under his direction, continues to grow in size and popularity.  Mr. Lebetkin was the music teacher at Ridgebury Elementary School from 1973 – 2008.  He directed strings, band, chorus, general music, as well as musicals.  Along with his wife Harriet, he directs Danbury Talent Education, a Suzuki School that teaches violin and piano.  Mr. Lebetkin, a violinist, graduated cum laude from Ithaca College with a major in music education.  He received his Master of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University, also with a major in music education.  He is a recipient of many awards and honors recognizing his work on behalf of world health and hunger, and active community service.
