Charles Ives was famous for quoting American folk songs in his music. The afternoon’s program features Ives’ music but also pieces by his contemporaries (with a cameo by J.S. Bach) in which they also used folk music in creative ways. Program to include:
Bela Bartok – Romanian Folk Dances
J.S. Bach – Gavotte
Johannes Brahms – Piano Quintet in F Minor
Henry Cowell – Aeolian Harp
Antonin Dvorak – String Quartet “American”
Charles Ives – TBD
Zoltan Kodaly – Duo for Violin and Cello
Florence Price – Five Folksongs in Counterpoint’
Maurice Ravel – Tzigane
