Saturday, August 12th – The Ives Legacy: Today’s American Music

Featuring Ives Series Artist-Faculty and Guest Artist Simon Boyar

Location: Marian Anderson Recital Hall at the Danbury Music Centre
Time: 7:00 PM

Charles Ives is widely known for having greatly contributed to the development of the American sound through his music. What is less widely known is that Ives and his wife, Harmony, dedicated a major portion of their estate to the proliferation of American music through the support of American composers. Today, American composers receive thousands of dollars a year from the American Academy of Arts and Letters because of the Ives dedication. This financial support is as integral to today’s American music as Ives’ musical legacy is. We close our series celebrating both legacies and with a little proliferation of own with one of our pieces coming from a worldwide call for scores. Program to include:

Justin Dello Joio – Music for Piano Trio

Paul Frucht – New work for guest artist percussionist Simon Boyar and chamber ensemble

Max Grafe – Obsidian Liturgy

David Ludwig – Three Yiddish Dances

Kevin Puts – Lento Assai

Caroline Shaw – Gustave Le Grey

Call for Scores Winner, Ursula Kwong-Brown
