The primary purpose of this endeavor is to bring American music to a community that is home to one of America’s most famous composers.

The Charles Ives Concert Series regularly features dynamic and unique emerging artists performing Charles Ives, the music of 20th and 21st-century American composers, and music that transcends the traditional boundaries of classical music to incorporate other styles of music.

Sunday, August 6th: Folk Music in the Era of Ives

Featuring Ives Artist-Faculty

We open the series with an evening of folk music written during Ives’ lifetime by Brahms, Debussy, Dvorak, Kodaly, Ives and others.

Tuesday, August 8th: Enduring Traditions

Featuring Ives Guest Artists Julian Schwarz and Marika Bournaki
Location: Marian Anderson Recital Hall at the Danbury Music Centre
Time: 8:00 PM
The Series welcomes cellist Julian Schwarz and pianist Marika Bournaki to Danbury to take you on a journey through American concert music through the ages, ranging from Arthur Foote, a contemporary of Ives to today’s living composers, including 2017 Composer-in-Residence, Justin Dello Joio.

Thursday, August 10th: Harmony

Featuring Guest Artists Peter Dugan and Charles Yang, Ives Artist-Faculty, participants of the Danbury Chamber Music Intensive.
Location: CityCenter Danbury Downtown Green
Time: 8:00 PM
Join us at CityCenter Danbury’s Downtown Green for a showcase collaboration between Ives Artist-Faculty and participant in the concurrent Chamber Music Intensive capped off by the return of violinist Charles Yang and pianist Peter Dugan performing original music and their own compelling covers of pop, rock, and jazz favorites. 


Saturday, August 12th: Charles Ives and His Living Legacy

Featuring Ives Artist Faculty and Guest Artist Simon Boyar
Location: Marian Anderson Recital Hall at the Danbury Music Centre
Time: 8:00 PM
The series closing with a celebration of Ives’s music and his profound impact on American concert music, embodied in music written by the composers of our time. The program features works by Ives, 2017 composer-in-residence, Justin Dello Joio, 2017 featured composer Max Grafe, as well as Kenji Bunch, Caroline Shaw, the 2017 Call for Scores Winner and Paul Frucht, the artistic director of the series.
